DHCP for DEBIAN --------------- This is the Internet Software Consortium (ISC) DHCP package. This release has full support for operation on multiple interfaces on 2.2.x kernels. The package can be used on 2.0.x, 2.2.x and 2.4.x kernels even though 2.0.x and > 2.2.x kernels are supported through different binaries. To know why we need different binaries for the DHCP client, server and relay take a look at /usr/doc/dhcp/dhcp-on-linux.txt. *** NOTE *** The dhcp binaries have been replaced with scripts that try to detect the kernel version you have and behave accordingly. If any problems arise, check what these scripts believe your kernel version to be. The sources of the ISC DHCP package produce the following Debian packages: dhcp: A DHCP Server dhcp-client: A DHCP Client dhcp-relay: A DHCP Relay dhcp-client-udeb: Small DHCP client for debian-installer If you get the following error when trying to run dhclient, dhcpd or dhcrelay: Can't install packet filter program: Protocol not available exiting. then you need to edit your linux kernel .config file, set CONFIG_FILTER=y, and rebuild your kernel. See /usr/share/doc/dhcp/README for more information. Eloy A. Paris $Id: README.debian,v 1.1.1.1.2.2 2002/02/21 16:54:28 eparis Exp $
