gnuplot for Debian ================== SVGAlib ------- I'd like to drop the svgalib support in gnuplot for several reasons: a) the SUID-bit has to be set which is a security risk b) the dependency on both svgalib and svgalib-dummy has to be crudely hacked into the package c) all these tricks only have to be done to support graphics no one uses on only one architecture :-( d) even upstream decided to disable svgalib by default If anyone desperately needs the svgalib-support, feel free to mail me privately, otherwise I'll follow the suggestion in bug #123195 and drop it. I'll switch gnuplot to GGI in the near future, but right now the code is marked experimental... libreadline ----------- Yes, the builtin readline of gnuplot is bad. However, libreadline cannot be used instead because it is licensed under the GPL, whereas gnuplot has special licenses (patches only). Linking those programs together is forbidden by the GPL. Please don't file bugs telling me to use libreadline in gnuplot... Documentation ------------- I'd like to warn gnuplot users that some of the present documentation is to be regarded as slightly outdated. For example, `latex_tutorial.dvi' dates back to 1991 and was written for gnuplot 3.0. It doesn't mention some analogous ways of importing gnuplot-produced PostScript into TeX, such as using `set term pslatex', etc. Similarly, the reference card `gpcard.ps' is also outdated. Please use on-line documentation as the definite source of help. This on-line documentation is available also in info, html, and ps formats. Thimo Neubauer , Sun Mar 10 16:39:49 CET 2002
