libproplist for DEBIAN ---------------------- I haven't had the time to properly test gsdd, and I'm not including it on this release. gsdd is the daemon in charge of communicating with programs to get defaults and dictionaries from another server. This will eventually let you configure a bunch of machines just by modifing a file on one of them, and running the daemon on the others. Right now it will only read the users' Defaults database. A bigger reason not to include gsdd in the package is that it uses a potentially dangerous function to read strings (there could be buffer overrun problems). The program DOESN'T have to be installed suid, but it may be dangerous anyway. To rebuild libproplist from scratch you need libtool, automake and autoconf. The necessary patches to get configure, aclocal.m4 and other files are included. Regarding the shared libraries ------------------------------ I made the patch to libtoolize libPropList. As of November 1st, 1998, Bjoern seems to have vanished (I hope not). Alfredo Kojima has been making some bugfixes to the library, and so have the GNOME people. I'm trying to push the patches upstream, but the problem is, what 'upstream' is is kind of fuzzy right now. Marcelo E. Magallon , Fri, 12 Dec 1997 23:27:17 -0600
