  • [Done] Due to a misbehaving router, Fifi.Org is intermittently unavailable since 22:30 on September 27 2005 PDT (05:30 September 28 2005 UTC). As of 21:30 September 29 2005 PDT (04:30 September 30 2005 UTC), the problem is believed to be fixed.
  • [Done] Fifi.Org was down and unreachable during scheduled maintenance at our ISP between 00:40 and 02:10 PDT on June 30 2005 (from 07:40 to 09:10 on June 30 2005 UTC).
  • [Done] We were cut us from the Internet between 00:00 and 02:30 PST on March 3 2005 (between 08:00 and 10:30 UTC on March 3 2005) for scheduled maintenance at the San Francisco POP.
  • [Done] Fifi.Org was down on Sunday January 23 2005 from 13:45 to 23:30 PST (from 21:45 on January 23 2005 to 07:30 on January 24 2005 UTC). All services but name service (DNS) were down while our network's IP addresses were changed. Our new address block is 64.81.251.128/28. DNS is already up-to-date.
  • [Done] Fifi.Org was down December 14 2004 from 8:30 to 9:00 and from 14:00 to 14:15 PST (on December 14 2004 from 15:30 to 16:00 and from 21:00 to 21:15 UTC) because of a PG&E (our electric supplier) planned power outage.
  • [Done] Fifi.Org was down on August 24 2004 from 15:00 to August 25 2004 at 00:30 PDT (from August 24 22:00 to August 25 07:30 UTC). The main server's hardware (tantale.fifi.org) has been upgraded to a dual Pentium-III.
  • [Done] Access to the public archive on ftp.fifi.org via FTP, HTTP or RSYNC was suspended between 21:15 and 21:45 on July 28 2004 PDT (between 4:15 and 4:45 on July 29 2004 UTC). The archive filesystem was extended to 100 GiB. All other services (SSH, web serving, etc) remained online.
  • [Done] Downtime for RAID reconfiguration occurred between 19:00 and 20:00 PDT July 27 2004 (between 2:00 and 3:00 July 28 2004 UTC).
  • [Done] As of July 15 2004, we have detected some corruption on the public mirrors on ftp.fifi.org (also know as debian.fifi.org). We have suspended all access to these archive, by anonymous FTP, HTTP, or RSYNC.
    FTP, HTTP and RSYNC services have been restored on July 18 2004 at 22:30 PDT (July 19 2004 05:30 UTC).
  • [Done] Fifi.Org was shut down for one hour while the corruption-yielding disk was pulled out. Downtime occurred between July 15 2004 19:30 and 21:00 PDT (July 16 2004 between 2:30 and 4:00 UTC).
  • [Canceled] Fifi.Org will be down for a couple of hours for an electrical circuit upgrade. Downtime will occur between 9:00 and 17:00 PDT on June 23 2004 (between 16:00 June 23 and 00:00 June 24 2004 UTC).
    Update: The electrical circuit upgrade was performed without needing to cut off the other circuits.
  • [Done] A kernel deadlock caused an unexpected downtime from 16:00 to 19:30 on May 12 2004 PDT (from 23:00 May 12 to 02:30 May 13 2004 UTC).
  • [Done] Unscheduled downtime for fan replacement occurred on March 21 2004 from 18:30 to 22:30 PST (March 22 from 02:30 to 06:30 UTC).
  • [Done] A scheduled downtime for hardware replacement occurred from March 17 2004 at 21:00 PST to March 18 2004 at 00:30 PST (March 18 from 05:00 to 08:30 UTC).
  • [Done] A router failure made Fifi.Org unavailable from 13:00 to 20:30 on January 27 2004 PST (from 21:00 on January 27 to 04:30 on January 28 2004 UTC).
  • [Done] Due to Pacific Gas & Electric's incompetence, we were out of power, and therefore off the net for almost 24 hours between Saturday December 20 at 18:00 PST and Sunday December 21 at 17:30 PST (between December 21 02:00 UTC and December 22 01:30 UTC).
  • [Done] Our ISP informed us that an upgrade might cut us of the Internet for as much as four hours between 23:00 PST on December 17 2003 and 03:00 PST on December 18 2003 (between 07:00 and 11:00 UTC on December 18 2003).
    The connection was actually down between 00:00 and 01:00 PST on December 18 2003 (08:00 to 09:00 December 18 2003 UTC).
  • [Done] Yet another shutdown is planned for December 9 2003 around 21:00 PST (December 10 05:00 UTC): we are currently transferring contents of the temporary hard disk to the exchanged disk and will need to remove the temporary hard disk.
    Update: The shutdown has been postponed to December 10 2003 around 21:00 PST (December 11 05:00 UTC).
    Final status: All services were restored on December 10 at 22:00 PST (December 11 06:00 UTC).
  • [Done] Around December 9 2003, the main server will be shut down for reinstalling the newly exchanged bad disk. Downtime should be around an hour.
    Update The shutdown will take place at 22:00 on December 8 2003 PST (06:00 on December 9 UTC) and will take around 30 minutes.
    Final status All services were restored at 23:00 December 8 2003 PST (07:00 December 9 2003 UTC).
  • [Done] November 20 06:00 PST (14:00 UTC): We are having some issues with the server's SCSI controller barfing at irregular intervals. The server is bouncing up and down.
    Update: November 20 22:00 PST (November 21 06:00 UTC): A disk has died and needs to be replaced. The public FTP area is inaccessible until further notice, either by FTP, HTTP, or RSYNC.
    Final status: November 22 2003 at 16:00 PST (November 23 00:00 UTC): the public FTP area has been restored on a new disk from tapes. Everything is back to normal.
  • [Done] Web (HTTP) services were unavailable from 14:30 to 21:00 PST on October 28 2003 (October 28 22:30 to October 29 00:00 UTC) after a configuration error... Oops.
  • [Done] Fifi.Org was unreachable from roughly 14:30 PDT to 17:45 PDT on August 2 2003 (21:30 August 2 UTC to 00:45 August 3 UTC): our upstream network provider had a major outage over all Northern California.
  • [Done] Fifi.Org was unreachable from roughly 17:30 PDT to 20:00 PDT on July 16 2003 (00:30 UTC to 03:00 UTC July 17 2003): our upstream network provider was having trouble at the SFO POP (for a change).
  • [Done] Fifi.Org's upstream network provider has planned a service interruption from Wednesday May 14 at 23:00 PDT to May 15 at 05:00 PDT (May 15 from 06:00 to 12:00 UTC). Access to Fifi.Org will probably be disrupted during this time-frame.
  • [Done] Since Friday May 9 at 18:00 PDT (May 10 01:00 UTC): one of the main server's disk is still behaving badly: no bad blocks, but it decides sometimes to stop answering to all requests. The server was down at least until Monday May 12 at 04:00 PDT (May 12 11:00 UTC).
    The bad disk will be taken off-line on Tuesday May 13 around 21:00 PDT (May 14 04:00 UTC). This will cause a short downtime. Sorry for the inconvenience.
    Update: all services but the various mirrors and the anonymous FTP area are back up on May 13 at 23:00 PDT (May 14 06:00 UTC). This area is being restored from tape and will be back online tomorrow.
    Final status: All services were restored on Thursday May 15 at 10:00 PDT (May 15 at 17:00 UTC).
  • [Done] One of the main server's disks got wedged from May 1 00:00 PDT to 07:30 PDT (May 1 07:00 to 14:30 UTC). The FTP and HTTP mirrors might have exposed abnormal behavior in this time frame.
  • [Done] Fifi.Org's upstream network provider has planned an emergency service interruption from Thursday March 20 23:00 PST to March 21 00:00 PST (on March 21 07:00 to 08:00 UTC). Access to Fifi.Org will probably be disrupted.
  • [Done] Fifi.Org's upstream network provider has planned a service interruption from Wednesday March 12 23:00 PST to March 13 03:00 PST (on March 13 07:00 to 11:00 UTC). Access to Fifi.Org might be disrupted.
  • [Done] Fifi.Org was unreachable from roughly 20:00 PST to 22:30 PST on February 10 2003 (04:00 UTC to 06:30 UTC February 11 2003): our upstream network provider was having trouble at the SFO POP.
  • [Done] The February 1 downtime has been rescheduled to Tuesday February 4 at 16:00 PST (Wednesday February 5 0:00 UTC). All services will be down for a three hour disk upgrade.
  • [Canceled] Fifi.Org will be down starting from 10:00 PST (18:00 UTC) on Saturday February 1 for a disk upgrade. Expected downtime is three hours.
