vendor Parameter

   (type=string, default to compiled in value).  The name of the vendor
of the operating system.  Overrides the compiled-in vendor name.  Useful
when the compiled-in name is not desired.  For example, most Intel based
systems set the vendor name to `unknown', but you can set it to
`redhat'.
